On Friday 16 October 2026, during the first day of the Geographies of Listening festival and the opening of the Public Community Library at Out of Sight, 16mm The Film of Her by Bill Morrison will be projected twice, at 20:00 and at 21:00.

The Film of Her (1996, 16 mm, b&w, optical sound, 12’) is based on the story of a Library of Congress clerk who saved a vaultful of paper reels, documenting the earliest days of cinema, from the incinerator. A gorgeous tribute to the art form’s origins, this 12-minute short is anchored by the memory of this man, who has had fixed in his mind since boyhood the image of a woman he saw in an early porn film. “The film of her” is what drives the clerk to save the films, this archive of collective memory.

Music: Henryk Gorecki, Bill Frisell

Distribution: Lightcone

The Public Community Library is situated between artistic research and public presentation. It is being co-developed in collaboration with Study Circle Antwerp within the On Mobilisation. Towards Multivocal Collaborative Futures project, co-funded by the European Union (Creative Europe programme).
