Coming into Being, an artistic project by Davide Tidoni, researches the borderline between listening and the body and explores listening as an active, embodied, and transformative practice. Rather than a passive act, listening is seen as a form of agency – the ability to focus not only on sound, but also on the environment, and to modulate and interact with it.
An important part of this project involves the production of an interactive performance, for which a group of performers and a scenographer are collaborating to cultivate a shared sensitivity and develop a number of key movements and choreographed sound actions for a live performance.
The project is produced through a series of residencies and presentations with the support of the partners: Nadine (Brussels), STUK (Leuven), Out of Sight (Antwerp), and wpZimmer (Antwerp).
During his residency at Out of Sight, Davide Tidoni investigated the first floor of the building, a space formerly used for storing old jukeboxes and later car parts. By leaving the room relatively empty, traces of renovations and alterations become apparent. Nooks and crannies, holes in the floor, and cracks in the walls take center stage. By integrating devices to record, play back, or amplify sound, Tidoni proposes positions from which to listen. Through subtle interventions and uncertainty about the origin of sounds, the relationship between the inside and outside of the space, and how they mutually define each other, was researched.
