There are recurring lines in our everyday life that we embody, that we follow and that we relate to. Our body is a line waking up in bed, a line that moves in a space. Lines define the space we inhabit – our homes, schools, offices, streets, our cities and our countries. They define how we relate to each other. By intercepting with the unknown and unexpected, our lines are being negotiated. Spaces are opening and closing, sometimes gently and sometimes violently intruding our senses and our bodies. New relations are being redrawn.

The Image Generator III brings together Musica, Out of Sight, Royal Academie of Fine Arts Antwerp – In Situ3, Tique, Kunst/Werk, wpZimmer and Platform 0090, offering a programme that crosses the border between visual arts, performance and sound, presenting artistic interventions, performances and actions in the city of Antwerp. We are inviting you to follow the proposed route and temporarily inhabit new places, while redrawing your daily routine during these three days in September.

Out of Sight invited artists Karolina Freino, Vanessa Mayoraz and Davide Tidoni to prest their work.

I feel I am missing something when I hear no music, then when I hear music I feel that something is really missing. – Robert Walser

Untitled (for Rafał) is a performance by Karolina Freino. For this work Walser’s sentence was transferred through different coding systems in order to translate words into melody. The process was strictly regulated by the rules of all used codes: the German language was translated into Polish and afterwards particular letters were written in the Braille Alphabet. Because basic Braille signs are used in different contexts (language, science, music, etc.), the received sequence of letter signs could be read as music notation. Therefore, in the next step, it could also have been written using traditional music notes. /// Karel Joos will perform Untitled (for Rafał) at Park Spoor Noord, on Saturday, 26 September, from 2pm – 4pm.

According to Rayleigh* is a participatory work by Vanessa Mayoraz. Viewers are invited to take a blue light bulb and indicate its future location on the Antwerp map in the space. According to Rayleigh unfolds a visitor’s imagination and exposes invisible but probable connections and correlations to others. The simple gesture of taking the blue light bulb echoes deeply in this time of physical distancing, reminding us of the precious yet simple moments that we take for granted. /// According to Rayleigh is installed at House InSitu3 / Dambruggestraat 356, Antwerp. After The Image Generator III the work will be moved permanently to Out of Sight.

*Rayleigh was the scientist who demonstrated why the sky is blue by proving that blue waives have the longest wavelength and therefore can travel the longest distance.

Within the context of The Image Generator, Davide Tidoni will present a two days intervention in sync with tides – Hold onto nothing. The work deals with the presence, absence and loss of sound as a metaphor for the human condition and the fallible nature of existence. /// Hold on to nothing takes place at Scheldekaai on Friday from 18:00 to 21:00 and on Saturday from 19:00 to 21:00.

The Image Generator III is supported by the City of Antwerp and the Flemish Community.
Many thanks to: Stormkop, Royal Academie of Fine Arts Antwerp – InSitu3, Site Bar Paniek/Tuning People, Atelier Katleen Vinck.
